Black History Month

BHNCDSB is committed to providing inclusive and equitable education. We want every student to feel welcomed and have every opportunity to succeed, as this aligns with our Board theme “We are Many, We are One”. Celebrating Black communities is celebrating an important part of the cultural mosaic that is Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board community.

During Black History Month, the schools of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country. All schools are creatively taking part in reflective activities which will allow students to discover outstanding figures from around the world. As well, African and Caribbean cultures will be explored.

The 2023 BHNCDSB theme for Black History Month is "Perseverance and Resilience", recognizing the accomplishments and achievements of Black communities while honouring the challenges, obstacles, and adversities. It is important to value the heritage of students from Black communities and nurture their pride in identity throughout the year.

This month, and throughout the year, BHNCDSB and school social media account posts will include #BHNBlackHistory365 to help everyone follow, share, and learn.
